Shantytown Buildings, Part: 1

Generic shanties for a shantytown setting, mainly for urban city and suburban fights. Made from corrugated cardboard and cereal box card with a rusty junk heap style paint job. Not much in the way of sticking minis inside them other than sliding them under and back out, but they fit the bill just fine for my uses. Enjoy!

Pyro Pete, the Raider with the Heat!

Pete was always a little unhinged, even if he didn't show it that much when around his brothers in arms during his days as a private in the core. The doctors said he was stable enough for field duty, boy were they underestimating his condition. Reports of his last sighting before going AWOL was of him running off west into the ash dunes near Haven settlement with what appeared to be a flamethrower and a maniacal laugh. Lately reports have come in that a small band of like minded pyromaniacs have been joining him, whether Pete is personally gathering his own band of followers or simply letting them live due to mutual ideals is still up for debate. Tracking him down is easy enough, just follow the plumes of promethium smoke from their latest attack. Catching him is the hardest part. He won't reveal why he does such things, only muttering incoherently to himself and shouting his now infamous battle cry, "I'm Pyro Pete, the man with the HEAT!"

Pyro Pete is a Reaper mini, the "Torch" McHugh figure, with an added skull trophies on his promethium tanks, extra pouches on his front chest plate, scenic skulls and rebar spikes from GW ogre base scenics and flying stands from necron scarabs, and flames on the thrower's nozzle made from a trimmed down GW Ork topknot.

Mercenaries and Hired Guns

Everyone needs a job done, but some people don't have the knowledge, time or skill to do it. Especially when it means dirty business. That's where these folks come in. Need a bodyguard or two for protection across the wastes? Maybe someone is overdue with a payment? Perhaps your short a few hands for a scav party. Whatever the cause, these men and women are ready to serve.... as long as the cash flow is good.

These minis are a conglomeration of items from my bitz box, with a base starting from a (you guessed it) GW model. The first is an oldie but a goodie classic Scout model with a slightly modified pistol. He currently represents myself in PA games, but I have not currently thought of a name for him yet. Wolfe, on the other hand, is a sly hunter with many skirmishes under his belt (hence the kill marks on his shotgun). Made from an Eldar grav-tank pilot body and some Imperial Guard and SM Scout bits. First time I used a camouflage technique on a mini, I think it turned out fairly well.

PotC: Technologist and Squad Leader

The Paladins of The Cog is a small but powerful organization of zealous individuals. Always on the search for lost technology, schematics, and relics of the world that once was they sour the ruins of MCW with the fervor of a scavenger party and the will of an archaeologist. Why do they do this? Their dream of bringing back the old world as much as possible, but protecting the darker secrets so they may never be used again. To help the wasteland not only survive, but begin to thrive. There are others, however, wishing the same prizes for themselves, for far more selfish and destructive reasons. It is those who wish to use these technological relics for self gain or against the wasteland that the Paladins of The Cog hunt down to defeat, so that all may share the brighter future without fear.

Below are a Paladin (right), which leads individual squads of Initiates on missions into the wastes to secure technology or battle, and a Technologist who studies and works first hand with old world tech to rediscover its uses and applications. Some, like this fellow, take their jobs to a new level, integrating said tech with their own bodies.

These miniatures, as you can probably already tell, are inspired by the Brotherhood of Steel from the Fallout universe. The Technologist is a GW Iron Hands Iron Father miniature with a few small modifications. The Paladin is a standard Space Marine Sergeant with a modified SMG and sabre.

Jonas Kane, "The Baron"

No one really knows the origins of the man known as "The Baron." Some say he was a corrupt merchant since before the end times, others say he is a stranded space faring merchant making his living off of the locals until a rescue comes. But most just think of him as an egotistical madman who runs the merchanting guilds with an iron fist. With his own private army of mercenaries, he and his advisors alone regulate trade routes and distribution of goods. He has also set-up his own private black market system to further fill his coffers and lure others to his cause.

The miniature is made mostly of GW Imperial Guard and Empire bits, with the foundation being a Space Marine Scout.

Mutie Mike the Fungus Farmer

When the bombs started falling, Mike was out in his truck on his way to work as normal. Crawling from the wreck caused by the ensuing crash, he dazily wandered into a nearby cave for protection where he promptly collapsed into unconsiousness. He woke up days later within a cavern of luminescent mushrooms of all shapes and sizes. With the lethal levels of radiation outside the cave, hopes of rescue were removed from his mind, and he began to settle into his new home.

Over time, Mike's body began to mutate into a greener, more hunched version of himself. Living off of the nourishing but fairly bland mushrooms Mike began to cultivate them and make new kinds of dishes for himself. Well, that is until a group of people stumbled on his home. At first he was treated as a hermit and outcast by the local wastelander community, but after a while they grew acustomed to him and was soon adopted into their society trading various scavanged items and his beloved fungus products. Finding a new purpose in life, "Mutie Mike" is a friendly presence to all he sells to.

Mutie Mike is a colaboration of GW Ork and Chaos mutant bits, along with some putty detailing. One of my favorite conversions.

Black Templars: Chaplain Jericho

Chaplain Jericho was a mini I did that took first place at my local hobby shop's painting competition a year ago, the theme being heroes of the 40k universe. Myself, along with six other contestants, had to buy a mini the day of the competition and assemble, convert, and paint it within a six hour time span. Afterwards a panel of three judges looked over our work and decided on a winner. Fun was had by all!

The mini itself is a GW Chaplain with Rozarius and Plasma Pistol, with a simple backpack conversion and hand painted details. Took me the entire six hour time limit but he was worth it in the end. Scenery provided by Shenanigans, my local hobby shop.

Black Templars: Venerable Dreadnaught Lazarus

Brother Lazarus was a former chaplain in the Noel Crusade under the leadership of Marshal Alexander. During a fight against the Gear' Eadz tribe lead by the infamous Mekkalord Grimmek Ordzskull, the chaplain found himself face to face with the warboss himself. The two fought for hours, each one not giving into the other, only ending when both simultaneously delivered near fatal blows. Lazarus himself was scissored in half by the ork's mighty power klaw, but in a final act of strength and he threw a Holy Orb of Antioch into the beast, setting him ablaze with righteous fire. Only when the ork fell did he give himself the pleasure of passing out. Days later the battle brother awoke within the confines of a Dreadnought. Asking what became of the battle, he was enraged that the warboss had indeed survived and was leading his waaagh! once again across the planet. Fury coursing through his veins, he tore through the bonds holding his suit and stormed from the chapter fortress. He now hunts the ork endlessly, refusing to give himself the luxury of eternal sleep he has earned twice over until the beast lay dead at his feet.

Mini is a stock GW Venerable Dreadnought. Scenery provided by Shenanigans, my local hobby shop.

The Phoenix Battle Car

A waster found this legendary wreck out on a stretch of I-95 and managed to get it cobbled back together again into a new kind of road beast; the Phoenix. Formally used in the infamous death rallies and auto combat coliseums of the deep city, the driver now travels the long stretches of abandoned roads delivering messages and loaning the firepower out to the highest bidders.

The car is a 1/43 scale Ferrari toy car with an added sprue and plasticard spiked ram, bitz box accessories for supplies and storage in the back, a rack of rockets made from Lite Brite pegs, rear thruster/flamethrower from a GW ork trukk model and two machine guns from classic GW melta hoses.

Greetings from the Metro City Wastes!

Hello and welcome to my little corner of the wasteland! This blog is dedicated to the miniatures hobby, tabletop wargaming and various musings pertaining to these fields. The main focus will be of my Metro City Wasteland universe (here after abbreviated to MCW) along with the stories and skirmishes that happen within it, but I will also be dabbling in the Science Fiction, Victorian Science Fiction (steampunk), and Fantasy genres as well. Feel free to reply, comment and critique as you please but keep it clean. I hope that you will have as much fun and inspiration from my stories and models as much as I had creating them, and that it will spur you to do the same for your gaming.

So welcome, God bless, and much fun from MCW. Enjoy!
